The March SST meeting was held on Tuesday, March 4 from 10:30 to noon in the R. Wayne Richey Ballroom of the IMU. The focus of the meeting was on mentoring: 1) how mentoring is contextualized and framed in the 2022-2027 UI Strategic Plan and 2) how mentoring – both within and beyond the classroom – is experienced by students through the lens of five alumni who have returned to campus for the 5th annual Student Leader Alumni Campus Visit and Panel. This initiative is a proud partnership between the Division of Student Life and the UI Center for Advancement. Our alumni guests this year were:
- Dr. Wanakee Carr (09BS, 14MD): UISG senator, GPSG executive officer, Black Student Union president (08-09), Carver College of Medicine Student Government president; currently obstetrician gynecologist at The Iowa Clinic, Des Moines.
- Kevin Hansen (07BS, 07BBA): UISG finance director (05-06), Association of Big Ten Students executive director, Hawkinson Institute, Mock Trial; currently Head of Government and Market Affairs at Orsted, New York City.
- Lauren McCarthy (06BA): Bijou executive director (04-05), UISG vice president (05-06), Honors Program; currently senior academic advising specialist, Zimpleman College of Business, Drake University, Des Moines.
- Dr. Josh Schoenfeld (18MD, 18PHD): GPSG president (15-16 and 16-17), Carver College of Medicine Student Government; currently gastrointestinal medical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City.
- Harrison Wheeler (09BFA): UISG executive, Black Student Union, Iowa Hawkeye Football, Bedell Entrepreneurship Lab, Student Life Marketing & Design; currently Director of Product Design.
