The November SST meeting was held on Tuesday, November 8th from 10:30-12:00. Tanya Villhauer, Assistant Dean of Well-being and Basic Needs, and Mara Cheney, Associate Director for Harm Reduction, shared and discussed the new 2022-2025 Alcohol Harm Reduction Plan. The UI Alcohol Harm Reduction Plan contains multiple, mutually reinforcing, and research-based strategies. The tactics in the plan are grounded in the best available research on student success and effective strategies to reduce high-risk drinking on college campuses. Recognizing that not all students drink and of those who do, not all do so in a high-risk way, the goals of our plan address the needs of all students including those who do not drink, those who have experienced a problem as a result of their drinking, and everyone in between.

Barry Schreier, Director of the SCSMH Higher Education Program, shared the work of the Higher Education Program in the new Scanlan Center for School Mental Health (SCSMH) and discussed the main mental health and well-being needs and wants of University of Iowa faculty, staff, and employees.  The goal was to develop those opportunities in which the Higher Education Program can assist in supporting and joining with those parts of the Strategic Plan focused on the mental health and well-being of all staff, faculty, and employees to create a health-promoting campus.
